Breakbeat champion DJ Adam Freeland is stepping up from DJing to launch a new band Freeland, which is both politically conscious and a world away from the dance floor, he announced this week.

"Although my roots are on the dancefloor it's a relief to be able to express my influences beyond that," said Adam this week.

"The idea of making 12 breakbeat tunes and calling it an album was about as appealing to me as a hard kick in the nads (testicles)," he added.

The five piece band showcase tracks from their upcoming debut album Now And Them at Fabric next weekend (Friday June 6) and can be expected to perform new single We Want Your Soul, which includes a sample from legendary anti-establishment comedian Bill Hicks.

"It's about the destructive side of consumer culture. About how we get force fed meaningless crap which distracts us from the issues that really matter," said Adam.

Bill Hicks has long-time been my hero, he was f-ucking funny, but also spot on in the way he revealed the bullshit illusion we are living in."
