8 Western Clubbers Busted in Thai Club Raids

At least 8 Western backpackers have been arrested and jailed in Thailand in the last month, after cops rounded up clubbers and drug tested them on the dancefloor, according to a report in local magazine Chang Mai City Life.

"In the past, visitors from the west were allowed to leave quietly while police rounded up unfortunate local boys to search and test for drugs- not anymore it seems," the magazine revealed.

"In a series of nightclub raids in March, all customers, including farangs (backpackers- literally meaning foreign devils)-male and female- were tested for methamphetamine and chemicals."

UK based drugs activist Grant McNally warned that local testing kits are even more unreliable than those used in the UK and added that anyone testing positive can be held for up to 45 days.
