New licensing regulations forcing security staff at pubs and clubs to prove they've had no criminal convictions in the last five years, could force up to 40,000 from their jobs when the system starts this summer.

The new regulations should help reduce violence against clubbers judging by a recent report on hospital admissions for assault in Liverpool which revealed that 10% of the victims had been attacked by bouncers (Emergency Medicine Journal).
