Pop stars including Ms Dynamite, Atomic Kitten and Sugababes were caught up in a near riot at a MOBO Awards afterparty this week when a mob of 200 tried to gatecrash the event, held on a luxury yacht. Armed police discovered a live bullet on the yacht when they eventually broke up the party and are investigating claims that a woman was raped in a toilet on the boat.

"It was insane, we feared for our life," TV presenter Dani Behr told the Metro newspaper.

Renowned gay rights protester Peter Tatchell, who was demonstrating against homophobic lyrics in raga music, also came under attack outside the ceremony from a 25 strong group of youths.

"This was one of the scariest moments in my 30 years of campaigning," he told the Guardian.

"The mood of the whole crowd was very ugly, not just the group who were actually violent. For a moment, I was in fear of my life." Previous targets for Tatchell's campaigning include Mike Tyson and Zimbabwe leader Robert Mugabe.
