Organisers of "raves and white hot dance clubs" are to blame for the rising popularity of ecstasy in the US, according to an alarmist report in this week's US newspaper The Grand Island Independent.

"Rave promoters and clever dealers have marketed Ecstasy as a harmless high that makes the music better, your circle of touchy-feely best friends wider and your moves on the dance floor endless," the Nebraska newspaper suggested.

"They also stamp their colourful E tabs with logos such as the Nike swoosh or clever graphics", the newspaper claimed.

Law enforcement officials in the Mississippi Gulf Coast region also appear to attempting to outlaw electronic music, according to a report in The Clarion-Ledger.

"There's no question that rave parties are drug parties where young people can go and uninhibitedly use drugs," said Harrison County Sheriff George Payne.

"It's a way to make a buck. I've never seen a legitimate rave party," he added.

The article also revealed that police in Ocean Springs recently "confiscated a flier about a rave that was passed out at Ocean Springs High School."
