[UK] Homelands 2002: Initial Line-up Details

Zero 7, Soft Cell and Jeff Mills look like being the highlights of this year's Homelands festival which takes place on June 1st on the same weekend as England's Golden Jubilee celebrations. Also playing live (and presumably doubling security requirements single handedly) are So Solid Crew's Oxide & Neutrino as well as Basement Jaxx and Warners/AOL new signing The Stanton Warriors.

Elsewhere, the multi-tented rave will be showcasing its usual selection of styles (trance, techno, drum & bass, house, hard house, disco etc) with standout names including Laurent Garnier, Brazil's DJ Marky, Richie Hawtin and Alison Limerick (playing live in the new Retro tent).

One of the most popular spots is likely to be The End's tent during Jeff Mills' three hour set, which will be his only festival gig in the UK in 2002. The Detroit techno pioneer and former member of Underground Resistance remains one of the world's highest rated and most enigmatic DJs, continuing to pursue his own unique vision of life.

"In time, all wrong doings are eligible for correction," Jeff's latest mission statement on his website says.

"Even in the eye of a storm we must endure the invalid as an objective fragment in the existence of mankind."

From there he launches into a highly obtuse discussion of the concept of time before concluding with a warning; "Please be advised that every dog has its day".

Whether Jeff's day is June 1st remains unclear, though Homelands looks likely to be the best of this year's large scale commercial raves.

Tickets cost £49.00 and can be purchased at Virgin, Tower Records and Waitrose supermarkets across Britain.
