British teenagers could soon face a ban on buying and even possessing aerosol spray paints under government plans to crack down on graffiti. Indelible marker pens could also be outlawed for under 18s, according to a report in this week's Guardian. Whether the new sanctions will work is open to question, judging by the experiences of DJ Richard Sen (of Bronx Dog fame), who first found underground fame in the 80s as one of London's most prolific writers Coma.

"Looking back I was fucked up and rebelling, it was a way of expressing myself as well as being part of a group. It was also the most exciting time of my life," Richard told Skrufff recently, going on to add that even a spell in prison had failed to deter him.

"After my first prison sentence, I came out and seriously developed a reputation for being one of the top graffiti artists. I was in trouble with the police for three years solid without going inside again, then in '88 there was a massive clampdown with a specialist police squad set up," he recalled.

"I got prosecuted for everything; they took photos of all my work. I'd actually stopped by then anyway, after starting going to acid house parties instead."
