So Solid Gunman Gets 18 Months

Ashley Walters aka Asher D from So Solid Crew was sentenced to 18 months in jail this week, after pleading guilty to possessing a gun this week. The 19 year old pop star, formerly a successful TV actor, explained how he'd regularly been terrorised and assaulted by local robbers, particularly after playing a gay character in the Bill.

"I only got the gun because I needed to feel safe. I didn't know how to use it," he told police in a recorded police interview played back in court.

"I feel scared and paranoid. I don't think I want to be in this (music) business anymore," he added (The Sun).

His sentencing came days after Mix Mag published a "Crime Special" feature investigating "the guns, drugs and violence" of UK clubland.

"Clubbing's special because its naughty, but often it's not quite legal and it's not quite safe," Mix Mag suggested.

"Chances are, the club you were in last weekend has links to gangsters, money launderers and drug dealers. It's their dodgy underworld and we're just visiting."
