Ex Verve singer Richard Ashcroft has joined the growing chorus of UK musicians protesting against the Bush administration's planned attack on Saddam Hussein telling NME this week, "I think any war on Iraq at the moment is not a legitimate war. We all know the reasons and we all know that God and oil are probably the two biggest causes of fucking war."

The influential singer told the indie weekly that he supported the sentiments of the CND backed campaign Stop The War, who'll be staging a massive demonstration in London on September 28. Speaking to Skrufff earlier this year, he admitted he'd been deeply affected by the events of 9/11.

"What September 11 did was get people into that one day at a time business and I think it internationally popped the bubble," he said.

"It was one of those periods when for three or four months we all watched the news too much and we all watched propaganda and its difficult to find out the truth anymore in anything. We're living in insane times."
