Philippines To Introduce Death Penalty for Ecstasy, LSD and GHB

Proposed new laws in the Philippines will make ecstasy possession punishable by death, Senate President Franklin Drilon announced this week. People caught in possession of just 10 grams of the drug will be killed or jailed for life, he promised, as will those found in possession of LSD, GHB, TMA "and other similar designer drugs", the Visayan Daily Star reported.

The new Middle Eastern style laws are part of an escalating crackdown on drugs which includes the establishment of a "Presidential Drug Enforcement Agency" modelled on America's DEA, the paper reported. According to the Star, ecstasy is "the drug of choice of scions (children) of well-to-do families" in the Philippines.
