Orwellian US High Schools Take The Piss

27 million American teenagers are likely to face random drug testing at school, following a ruling from the Supreme Court approving the controversial practice. "Going to high school in America will soon be an experience straight out of Orwell's 1984," said Rolling Stone magazine. President Bush is likely to go even further, the magazine suggested, probably introducing mandatory tests for every student (including juniors) in the near future.

The magazine, however, blamed the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Organisation) for "enabling" the new drug testing scheme, specifically drug expert Graham Boyd for daring to take on the issue. Mr Boyd has also been heavily involved in defending electronic music from DEA attempts to equate night clubs with crack houses, and is one of America's leading civil liberties campaigners.
