Mimi & Boyd, the musical partnership between Mark 'Vapourspace' Gage and Michelle 'Punisher' Hermann, was formed after the two bonded during a police raid in Detroit, Mark Gage revealed this week. Techno pioneer Mark had been playing live at a warehouse at 6am, when he was disturbed by Michelle sprinting towards him screaming 'Get your stuff now, we gotta' get out of here'," he recalled.

"As we flew towards the only door, other doors I didn't know existed, flew open and the morning light burned through the smoke with about 30 cops in its wake," said Mark.

"A mad clump of sweaty kids crammed towards the only door we knew all night, with Michelle and I buried dead centre. It was truly the funnel effect as one by one everyone plopped out the skinny end."

"Literally seconds later the door was closed and everyone left inside was hauled off, paddy wagon style and booked at the police station; Ravers, DJs, sound and lighting people included. We agreed 'we've definitely got to do a project together now'."

The raid happened in June 1998 and 5 years on the duo are just about to release a 9 song full length CD which is coming out Phthalo Records this Fall (Autumn).

"The CD is techno pop with the emphasis on machinery, we wanted it to have somewhat of a hard edge to it with a pop chewy centre," said Mark.
