House compilation label Hed Kandi have teamed up with former Massive Attack collaborators 45 Dip to launch a new compilation series The Acid Lounge, which aims to "shake up the world of chill". The double compilation includes downtempo jazz tinged tracks from Zuco 103, Kruder & Dorfmeister and Bebel Gilberto and is intended to be "uneasy listening" the press release suggests.

The new collection is the latest of many spin-off labels for Hed Kandi and directly results from the Jazz FM owned label's success, said founder Mark Doyle.

"I'm one of those people who if I get enough good records I always want to release another CD and if I've got enough to fit into a certain theme, then I do," he told Skrufff.

"Hed Kandi has become such a recognisable, high profile brand in the last year and we found we had more music than we could release. There's so much good music that's ignored; on the one hand you've got the very trendy compilations and at the other, the very commercial ones, with all this stuff in between from really strong labels that often doesn't make it onto CD."

A veteran DJ who came up alongside the late 80s West London scene of Brandon Block and X Press 2, the unashamedly populist radio jock also appears to be tiring of the DJ as rock star phenomenon.

"DJing has become this cult thing and I think it's moving away now from the superstar DJ thing," he said. "People seemed to forget that a DJ is there to entertain people, regardless of whether you're playing the latest trendiest record or the Monkees' Daydream Believer."

45 Dip present the Acid Lounge is out on March 25.
