Seminal hip hop guru Grandmaster Flash, who helped invent the genre through DJing at block parties in the South Bronx in the 70s, releases a new compilation shortly, featuring tunes that he actually used to play at the original parties. The Official Adventures of Grandmaster Flash comes out on Strut on January 28 and includes tracks from Kraftwerk, Yellow Magic Orchestra and several of his own extended freestyle mixes, which helped spawn today's worldwide DJ culture.

Best known for his early 80s crossover hits The Message and White Lines, Flash was the first star DJ of New York's then ghetto-based rap scene and remains a towering presence in the hip hop world. He'll also be making a rare DJing appearance in London on March 1st, fulfilling a gig that was previously cancelled due to the events of 9/11.
