Gay Clubs Should Be Mixed

Gay activists in Brighton who've formed a group to ban straight people from gay clubs are misguided and wrong, according to leading music publicist Allan Watson.

"The focus of gay rights groups should be integration not isolation so that "straight clubs" and "gay clubs" are replaced with "clubs", said Watson, who as well as promoting dance music to both gay and straight media, also happens to be gay.

Our Space founder Johnny Lord accused straight women of sexually harassing gay men, telling the Independent last week, "the Manchester gay scene has effectively been destroyed by lets-take-a-peek straights and that's going to happen here (Brighton) unless we do something." Watson, however, who also lives in Brighton was unimpressed.

"I think that the aims of Our Space are ridiculous," he told Skrufff this week. "Then again, my gay landlord has been sleeping with a straight woman for the last 8 months who he met at a gay venue, thus proving the theory that you fall in love with a person not a sexuality."

Watson runs independent dance PR agency Pier Pressure representing Nukleuz and a whole host of hard house, techno and trance producers and labels.
