DJs and producers criticising US war plans on Iraq are trying "to cash in on the credibility possibilities of anti-war blabbering," according to Thomas Foley, the former boss of React Records.

"All of us would rather dance in a field with flowers in our hair and in most western counties people do," Thomas told Skrufff this week. "Regrettably western leaders have a duty to protect the weak from the strong."

His comments were prompted by Massive Attack's support of the anti-war campaign and DJ Layo's suggestion that attacking Iraq will increase the risk of terrorist attacks on London, a view he dismissed as wrong.

"London will always be a terrorist target for the reason that it is the most important English speaking city outside the US and plays the biggest role in international politics within the EU (to the horror of the French)," said Thomas.

"London is by far the biggest European capital and an important financial centre and is therefore a prime target."

Australian promoter Dave Wesson from Zoom Management also took exception to Layo's comments, scoffing, "keep smoking the pot, Layo, sitting around with your head in the sand will solve all the worlds problems." However, Dutch DJ agent Sasha Lawrence, from leading breaks company Fillin Da Gap took the opposite view.

"I completely agree with Layo," Sasha told Skrufff.

"Going in guns blazing is very likely going to stir up more extremism in the brainwashed lands of the Middle East. However, the smell of oil is too big a temptation for the governments of the west."

US DJ and promoter Chris Dooley from Charlotte also sided with Layo, declaring, "on behalf of the majority of Americans who don't want this war with Iraq, I deeply apologize to the world and especially to the innocent people who will be killed when Bush and his idiot war wagon decide oil is more important than life.

I sincerely send my dearest sympathies to those left in the world with common sense."
