EMI imprint Credence has signed Green Velvet's electro style club hit from 2001, La La Land, which is distinguished by a rap apparently aimed against ecstasy and Los Angeles.

The track already appears on Green Velvet's latest album Whatever which saw the notoriously flamboyant Chicago producer embarking on a more socially conscious direction even addressing racism in America.

"As a black American, you always feel the presence of racism on a daily basis, even if we're not talking about full scale, blown out of all proportion incidents," he told Skrufff's Benedetta Ferraro last November.

"It also depends on where you live, some suburbs are not so bad, but big cities can get pretty tense. On a superficial level people seem to get along, but it's like walking on a minefield. I feel the government holds some responsibility for all of this, since they often treat minority groups appallingly."

The track is also being lumped in with the 80s electro revival/ new wave which fits with Green Velvet's route into clubbing.

"It goes back to the '80's, when I first started going out. I just loved the music, the scene… and I decided I wanted to be part of it," he said.

"As a young boy I used to listen to house music on the radio. I was, and still am, a huge fan of Grace Jones, David Bowie and Sly Stone; I love their music, stage personalities and so on. So when I became old enough to go to clubs I went, and I've never looked back."
