America's notoriously violent street gangs the Crips and Bloods have been linked to some of the escalating gun violence in New York, according to an alarming report in this week's Independent.

The gangs have reportedly re-launched prostitution and drug operations around Times Square, which up until the late 80s was one of the city's most dangerous quarters, before being cleaned up by Giuliani. They've also reportedly
set up shop in the Hampton's, the holiday resort seaside towns traditionally packed with New York's rich during the city's incredibly uncomfortable hot summers. Both street gangs originally formed in LA, though nowadays operate throughout the States.

London clubland was also hit by more shootings last week, when shots were fired outside Eve's nightclub in Regent Street. The small basement club was infamous in the 60s for playing host to some of the decade's notorious sex scandals, though in recent years has established itself as a leading venue for intimate house affairs (Sancho Panza recently staged an event there).

During the incident (which had no connection with Sancho Panza) a gunman fired at two cars parked outside the club, though no injuries were reported. Both the attacker and his targets sped off before police arrived (The Standard).
