Gang-related murders in Los Angeles have tripled over the last two years, with 63 people dying in January and February alone, according to a report in this week's New York Times. According to the paper, long established truces between gangs such as the Crips and Bloods are dissolving as a new generation of fearless gang members emerge.

"Unfortunately, people my age and younger, they're not worried about people killing each other," Blood gang member James Scott, 21, told the paper.

"As long as it's not them dying, they're not losing any sleep over it."

331 gang-related homicides happened in Los Angeles in 2001.
