London suburban areas such as Ealing should become "mini West Ends" to help manage the city's booming night-time economy, according to a new academic study Late Night London (The Standard). The London University produced report also recommends tube trains should run later at the weekends, while club doormen could supervise bus stops outside clubs.

Liberal Democrat councillors in Southwark, the inner London borough bordering Lambeth (Brixton), also urged police to stop prosecuting anyone caught in possession of small amounts of any drug, this week, suggesting they should be cautioned.

"If the plans go ahead, the new policy will effectively decriminalise hard drugs for personal use in Southwark," the Standard suggested.
