The Chemical Brothers have "disappeared off the cultural radar" while X Press 2 are "mystifying bland" according to the latest issue of NME, in which the sliding rock weekly has yet again tried to reposition itself as definitive arbiters of dance music taste.

As recently as last July one of the paper's top executives admitted that the former indie magazine had only just started embracing dance culture, some 13 years after the acid house began.

"NME has been evolving in recent months and now it embraces all genres of dance music," IPC marketing chief Vijay Solanki told Music Week.

"This means it can have an opinion on dance issues when there is a debate to be had."
