Cream launches a national search for a new resident DJ on May 10th.

"Wow, where did that go, here's to the next ten years!!" James Barton, Cream.

Its 10 years in October since Cream first opened its doors at a disused ammunitions warehouse venue in Liverpool. No one knew it at the time, but music history was being made. 400 people attended the opening night and we reckon since then, Cream has entertained over 1 million people, and that's just at the Liverpool venue. The search for a Cream resident is the flagship activity behind Creamx10, a collection of multi-media activity celebrating 10 years of Cream, culminating in a 3 night birthday party at the club in Liverpool on the weekend of 11th - 13th October.

The lucky winner will be following in the footsteps of previous Cream residents the legendary Paul Oakenfold and Seb Fontaine and current local hero, Yousef, all whom have gone on to the elite status of Superstar DJ's!

The winner will join current residents Yousef and Paul Bleasdale from 1st January 2003 when they will play at the club once a month and represent Cream at key domestic and international club dates throughout the year. The new resident will be developed via Cream and will learn quickly by working with Radio 1's Yousef and Paul Bleasdale as well as the many guest DJ's who frequent the club.

The competition launches on 10th May 2002 with all entries having to be in by the 6th June. Entrants will be selected down to 50 finalists who will then be divided into 10 regional heats where the 5 best DJ's will battle it out in front of friends and clubbers as well as the Cream Resident panel. One winner from each region will then perform in Annexe3 at the legendary Cream nightclub, in Liverpool, in September where the panel will make their final decision. The winner will be officially crowned as the new Cream resident DJ in October in time for the winner to play at Creamx10 birthday weekend.

The judging panel for the regional heats includes dance music's favourite lady, Sister Bliss (DJ / Faithless) through to Iain Hoskins (Cream's head of music), Neil Bentley (Galaxy weekend DJ), Conor McNicholas (Muzik editor), Ralph Moore (Muzik associate editor)

The winner will not only receive the prestigious title of Cream Resident of the year but will also win the chance of a lifetime, to perform at Cream's Birthday weekend and have their DJ set broadcast live on a national radio network, as well as a guaranteed 52 Cream dates in 2003 - with one gig a month at Cream in Liverpool. Also included in this money can't buy prize is a Muzik magazine covermount CD, a two hour slot on Galaxy Network and Juice FM in Liverpool, Sony Minidisc equipment, and the chance to play at Cream's 10th anniversary weekend at Nation in Liverpool on October 12th 2002.

To enter, budding DJ's should look out for the entry forms in the dance press or log onto www.cream.co.uk/creamx10
