Iain Duncan-Smith, the leader of Britain's opposition political party the Conservatives, has been confirmed as the star guest for their upcoming annual gay disco, Absolutely Equal. According to the Telegraph, the "dashing former Guards officer" will be the first party leader to attend the event, which takes place in Bournemouth each October.

"It's always a really good do, with a disco and a couple of speeches," a regular from the event told the newspaper.

"The drink will be flowing on the night and we'll certainly be trying to get Iain on the dance floor for the Village People classic Y.M.C.A."

28 year old conservative councillor Christopher Jackman also attracted controversy this week, after refusing to apologise for selling lollipops bearing the cannabis symbol at last week's Edinburgh Festival.

"There has been a lot of fuss up here about the lollies I have been selling, but they are perfectly legal," Mr Jackson complained.

"All they do is put a smile on your face." (Basildon Evening Echo)
