NME published a letter branding Bobbie Gillespie a coward this week following his decision to re-title Bomb The Pentagon as "Rise". "Is our Bobby scared of upsetting a riled up and insular US public-' asked Alfredo Garcia Lorca. "Jeez, I never thought I'd see the day when George Michael had more nerve and political edge than Primal Scream."

More sinisterly, the Independent's music critic Simon Price escalated what appears to be a concerted campaign against the outspoken rocker, snarling in a review of the band's new album Evil Heat, "like its creator, this record is not a clever as it thinks it is."

Price previously attacked Gillespie several weeks before in a review of the band's Shepherd's Bush Empire gig, spitting, 'The crux of the argument is whether Gillespie is an idiot savant or whether the 'savant' bit isn't necessary."
