Clubbers visiting Ayia Napa face a "serious threat" from Al-Qaida terrorist attacks according to a report in this week's Guardian. Ossama Bin Laden's forces are in an "advanced stage of preparation", the newspaper suggested, with British officials anticipating an "outrage" "some time soon."

"They (British officials) worry specifically about potential British targets in Cyprus," said The Guardian.

The warning came just a week after Ayia Napa's mayor Ms Barbara Pericleous publicly castigated British clubbers and virtually told them to stay away altogether.

"If these people continue to not respect themselves or this place we'll close the discos," she promised.

"We'll close the pubs, refuse to give clubbers apartments to stay in and stop them playing garage music."
