Activists challenging American attempts to outlaw dance music have designated Friday September 6, as a 'national call-in day' for clubbers to phone their Senators to voice their opposition to the R.A.V.E. Act. DJs, sound systems and glow-stick carrying protestors will also be staging a 5 hour protest party on the White House lawn (Washington DC) on Friday afternoon from 3pm.

A simultaneous event is planned at the Westwood Federal Building, Los Angeles, featuring sets from DJs including Doc Martin, Richard Humpty Vision and Freddy B.

The RAVE Act is not just about ecstasy and raves," said a statement from the organisers of the events.

"The bill is so broadly written that individuals could potentially face 20-year sentences for using drugs at home. Anyone who used drugs in their own home or threw an event (such as a party or barbecue) in which one or more of their guests used drugs could potentially face a $500,000 fine and up to twenty years in federal prison."
