Adam F Leaves EMI

Adam F has become one of the first high profile departures from EMI, following the label's recent announcement that 400 acts would be dropped. His split from the corporation will be almost certainly linked to the poor commercial performance of his latest album Kaos- The Anti-Acoustic Warfare, his experimental hip hop project that failed to break through.

Adam F first signed to EMI in 1996, when he joined Positiva, who set about marketing him as one of the leading lights of drum & bass. His debut album Colours became one of the genre's biggest crossover albums, selling over 100,000 copies, some way below the 500,000 units The Daily Telegraph recently suggested majors need to sell to break even.

His follow up album Kaos introduced a radical change in direction towards US style hip hop featuring contributions from the likes of LL Cool J and Beenie Man though "the new Dr Dre", in the event, failed to transform his fortunes. The album was also undoubtedly hit by fallout from September 11, not least since its initial artwork included images of apocalyptic Manhattan skylines including smoking twin tower skyscrapers.

According to Music Week, EMI said his departure was by "mutual consent".
