Just 400,000 revellers turned up for this year's Berlin Love Parade, some one million less than attended in 1999. Organisers blamed bomb threats and the terrible storms which lashed Berlin several days before (killing seven people) though according to techno superstar Adam Beyer, over-commercialisation was also to blame.

"The Love Parade has been going for a very long time, becoming bigger every year and more commercial," Adam told Skrufff's Benedetta Ferraro.

"Ultimately, those people who were going for the music, have decided not to bother anymore."

"What I've been hearing lately, is that the whole dance scene in Germany has been going down in the last six months," he added.

"There are several key reasons; firstly the introduction of the Euro, which has raised all prices by 20%. Secondly, electronic music and therefore techno, don't seem to attract so many fans anymore. I don't know why, but record sales have been going down dramatically."

The hugely popular Swedish producer added that his own record sales have held up. He's also set to release his own new artist album shortly (called Ignition Key) as well as a mix CD, The Stockholm Sessions, for electroclash specialists Turbo Recordings.
