7 Monthly To Take On Mix Mag, Ministry and Muzik

7 magazine, the independently produced weekly dance title, is launching a new monthly version next week (Tuesday May 7) which could shake up Britain's entire dance press. The new magazine is aiming to tackle political and social issues related to clubbing rather than pushing the 'dance culture as entertainment' line currently dominating the rest of the UK dance magazines.

"In 2002, it's 'only dance music'; it's 'just clubbing' - and no one bothers to write about it like it matters," 7 claim out in their preview 'dummy' issue.

"Dance music is being quietly co-opted and conformed from both inside and outside, but you wouldn't know that from the magazines you see on the shelves."

The new magazine's launch is particularly significant since it's produced by DMC Publishing, who previously developed Mix Mag into the world's most successful dance magazine, before selling it to corporate publishers EMAP at the end of the 90s.

"It's not Mix Mag Gold and it's not 'acid house for sofa surfers'," they stress. "But it's not "just dance music culture" either."

Skrufff will also be collaborating with the new magazine running a monthly Skrufff page in each issue.
