Over-zealous UK cops nicked over 200 festival-goers at last weekend's V2002 rock festival, which featured bands including Manic Street Preachers, Sterereophonics and Primal Scream.

The large numbers of arrests followed specific police warnings that they'd be aggressively targeting drug users despite upcoming changes in the classification of cannabis.

"Cannabis is illegal, even if you've got it for personal use," said a message on Staffordshire Police's V2002 Safety Guide to V2002, issued prior to the event.

"Police searches before you go onto the site, sniffer dogs and closed circuit TV are just three methods we'll be using to keep V2002 drugs-free. If you're caught dealing, using or carrying a controlled drug, you'll be arrested."

Among the unfortunate 242 people cautioned were DJing duo Weekend Players, who were cautioned then allowed on site to perform their set, the News Of The World reported. The paper didn't mention whether Andy Cato of Groove Armada, the best known member of Weekend Players, was one of those busted.
