Paul Carnell and his wife Lucia comprise Sunscreem, one of the first electronic dance acts to seriously embrace life performance when they formed in 1990. Ten years after first forming they continue to create new still contemporary dance music, recently releasing Ten Mile Bank, a collection of previously unreleased remixes and productions from the last 3 years. Skrufff caught up with Paul this week and discovered the couple are aiming for a traditional sort of festive break this year.

Skrufff: What are you doing on Christmas Day-

Suncreem: "It will be strictly a family affair with kids and grandparents, with everyone becoming progressively more horizontal throughout the day."

Skrufff Do you personally decorate the Xmas Tree-

Suncreem: "Lucia decorates the tree, I'm not allowed near decorations of any sort . . ."

Skrufff: Have you ever been Carol singing-

Suncreem: "Yes, I've been a number of times in the village when I was younger. We took a tractor & trailer covered with straw bales, a barrel of beer and a cauldron of mulled wine. By the end of the evening, people were paying us to stop singing and go away."

Skrufff: What's been the most useless present you've ever got; do you, for example, have any aunts/ uncles who persist in buying you scarves or nice jumpers-

Suncreem: "I have a particular aunt who was famous for giving mind-bogglingly useless presents. For example, one year we all received hand-painted stones. However, I have to say that I grew to respect her presents because they always produced such an intense reaction from the family."

Skrufff: have you ever faced Xmas day with the family after spending Xmas Eve out all night clubbing-

Suncreem: "Err yes, and it's really not much fun. Facing the family is fine (they are pretty tolerant of us), however facing that mountain of food . . ."

Ten Mile Bank is out now on Five AM and is available for purchase online at music-village.com
