Manhattan's best-known superclub Twilo has shut down permanently after failing to win back their cabaret licence, which was taken away last year following intense pressure from city authorities. The Chelsea club had continued trading while they challenged the city's move in court, though was closed following further 'building violations' discovered during a raid, several weeks ago. Following the raid, Deputy Mayor Rudy Washington openly boasted to local tabloids about closing down the world famous venue permanently, and he now appears to have got his wish. "Every weekend people are in danger (at the club)," he claimed in the New York Daily News"If you look back over the last 12 to 14 months there are shootings, stabbings, overdoses."

In more US rave news, cops launched a massive raid on an unlicensed beach party in Galveston (Texas) last weekend and arrested 84 people revellers. DEA helicopters joined officers from the Narcotics Task Force and Department of Public Safety for the assault on Crystal Beach, which had been an occasional location for parties since 1997.

""We got wind of it about a month ago on the Internet," Captain Henry Trochesset, from Galveston Sheriff's Department told the Galveston County Daily News. "We haven't been aware of them in advance (previously), so we only had a handful of officers working the area. We started checking the web sites regularly. Knowing when they usually occur, we started checking about a month and a half ago."
