Ministry Of Sound's recent 500,000 selling chillout compilation was inspired by the much maligned 'coffee table' genre of trip hop, Ministry MD Mark Rodol admitted this week. 'It just kept selling, we were getting calls from 40-somethings who liked it," Rodol told the Observer. "We were surprised and I think the whole industry has woken up to the fact that there's a new market out there for Portishead/ Massive Attack-style music."

DJ Lottie is the only representative from the dance world to appear in Loaded's latest pinup supplement, Brit Babe Bible, which comes with a free bar of chocolate in the new issue. 'Loaded went to Venezuala with her and can confirm she's a right minx,' they explained. Lottie appears alongside such beauties as Geri Halliwell, Tina S Club 7, Clare Steps and Jordan. Loaded's website Uploaded, meanwhile, was shut down for good last week, as IPC continued to cut costs.

French jazz houser St Germain plays live at Brixton Academy on Saturday September 29th and will presumably be bringing along a full band to fill out the stage at the 5,000 capacity South London theatre. One month later on Wednesday 31st October, 80s electro duo Soft Cell appear at the same venue after reforming earlier this year. The pairing of Dave Ball on synth and Marc Almond on vocals remains a powerful one, combining, as the Standard aptly put it, 'two of the few people able to make sleaze appealing'. Expect the venue to be filled with guttersnipes and lowlifes.

John Acquaviva appears on Skrufff's Detroit partner spinners.tv this weekend, where he'll be mixing in full broadband effect. Also on the new animation site is stuff with DJ Kero, Derrick May and miss tek, 'showing us why she's the cutest DJ in Windsor' as Spinners' PhedX says.

Nature Boy, the recent collaboration between Massive Attack and David Bowie, appears on the soundtrack to new Hollywood movie Moulin Rouge, which is out next week on 20th Century Fox. Combining Massive's trademark downbeat ambience with Bowie's similarly dour voice, the track is a disappointing amalgamation, which sadly ends up being far below the sum of both parts. Fatboy Slim's Because We Can also appears on the CD alongside Beck and no less than 4 tracks featuring Nicole Kidman on vocals.

Muzik's latest editor Chris Ewell-Sutton has been replaced by Mix Mag News editor Conor McNicholas, Music Week reported this week. The magazine continues to sell just 45,000 copies a month (less than half of Mix Mag's circulation) and judging by the new editor's comments will continue to be aimed at its usual somewhat limited core audience. "It will be the magazine for 21-something men who are passionate about dance music and going out and who want a quality read that reflects their lifestyle," McNicolas told MW. Since its launch days in 1995, Muzik has been mainly purchased by males, with some issues attracting just 1 in 10 female readers (12%).
