London's best-known gay club Trade are hosting three New Year's Eve parties this year including an open-air event on the seafront of Rio de Janeiro. Up to five million Brazilians celebrate the New Year on Rio's world famous beach-front each year, so Trade's spot is certain to be rammed. The club also host a 14 hour event at their Los Angeles base the Hollywood Palace, which runs from 22.00 to midday. Back at their Turnmills home, regular resident DJs Steve Thomas, Malcolm Duffy, EJ Doubell and Ian M all spin on the night alongside as yet unnamed 'special guests'.

After years of being dominated by shirtless, steroid pumped 'Muscle Marys' the club appears to be repositioning itself for the future, judging by comments Trade creator and boss Lawrence Malice made in Ministry magazine this week.

We've changed and so has the concept," he said. "It's a mixed crowd now, predominantly straight to start with and then increasingly gay as the night wears on. Straight people get tired quicker."

Trade also celebrate their 11th birthday next weekend (October 28th) at their London home at Turnmills. Starting at 4am Sunday morning and running until 'super-late' the party features all their latest residents plus more 'special surprises'. Tickets cost £25 and are available from their website.
