Melbourne samplists The Avalanches have won five nominations for this year's Australian Dance Music Awards, appearing in categories for best Video, best album, best live act, best debut act and best single. The other twelve categories include nominations for hard trance/ house jock Pee Wee Ferris (who recently hooked up with both Truelove and Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto), Pnau, Phil K and Andrez Bergen, who's Skruff's man-in-Melbourne. Andrez, who also records as Little Nobody, was nominated for Album of the Year for his new album Action Hero which came out on his own label Ifsowhat earlier this year. The awards, organised by Sydney magazine 3D World launched successfully last year.

"We noticed there was a lot of Australian talent that people in the industry wanted to see applauded but no one was doing it," said Jade Harley, General Manager of 3D World. "If other awards were paying attention to dance music and were giving it its dues then there wouldn't be a need but the whole point is that no one is doing that, it's just pop or rock. There was an obvious gap that needed to be filled," she said.

The award ceremony takes place on August 29th at Sydney's plush Metro Theatre. Check the websites below for more details including the chance to vote for certain categories. Also check out the website contenders below, including our mates at inthemix.com.au.
