Prodigy Implicated in Mice Torture Case

40 mice were injected with amphetamines and forced to listen to 4 hours of the Prodigy during an experiment at Cambridge University, the Standard reported this week. 7 mice died during the experiment to study the effect of music on drugs, which was condemned by animal rights campaigners as "sick and despicable."

"Just because people choose to take drugs and go to raves doesn't justify subjecting animals to suffering and death in the laboratories in procedures that will tell us nothing we don't know," said Wendy Higgins from the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection.

Researchers denied the accusation, claiming that the experiment had demonstrated that loud music does increase toxicity of amphetamines. All 40 mice reportedly spent the whole four hours either "glued to the spot or walking backwards" (presumably not including the ones that died).
