Madam Friction- Even a Child Could Make Hard House

Currently labelled as a hard house/ techno type, Essex based producer/ DJ Madame Friction prefers to be known for playing "sexy, tech house". Making her DJ debut some years ago courtesy of fellow Essex men the Prodigy, she nowadays records for Nukleuz, when not jetting off around the world to either spin records or play golf. Proud possessor of a handicap of 6 (golf pros work to zero) she's hoping to go to Spain on January 3rd for a mini-golfing holiday followed by ski-ing later in the month. Before that, though, she took time out for a quick mini Xmas interview with Skrufff's Jonty Adderley.

Skrufff: How do you think NYE compares to other nights of the year-

Madame Friction: "Obviously it's a very special night for all and is always fun but for me it can be spoilt by over inflated entry prices, because most DJs and clubs put their fees up. The Millennium was a big let down for most with stupid prices while taxis and public transport was virtually non-existent. Although I was paid well I'd rather have been at home with my chums rather than chasing up and down the country on the motorway. One gig close to home is the best, then at least you can have a party after playing."

Skrufff: What do you predict 2002 will bring-

Madame Friction: "Personally, a change in musical style. I've never played unusually hard music but right now I have this "hard" tag on my head. I'll still be playing funky hard house but will be producing more sexy house and tech house records."

Skrufff: What do you predict for hard house's future-

Madame Friction: "Hard house is on its way out as it's been done to death and become too fast and druggy. So many bedroom producers are churning it out badly (releasing loads of poor tunes) and even a child could make a track on a toy keyboard- it's so unmusical."

Skrufff: Do you expect to be travelling more next year-

Madame Friction: "I do gig overseas and will continue to do so. The events of 911 were horrific and every time I take off it does cross my mind. I take the view that if your time is time, it's up and that's beyond your control. If people stop flying, terrorism has won. Nothing will change for me."
