Fire & brimstone preacher John Stormer has labelled rock music as the ultimate gateway drug, telling a congregation last week that he'd 'never met a drug user who didn't listen to rock music first.' The multi-million selling fundamentalist Christian author also blamed junk food and bad TV for America's spiritual decline, though was, however, surprisingly keen on chill-out music. "They should surround themselves with soothing music like the kind biblical hero David played on his harp," Stormer told a packed congregation last week, prompting approving replies of 'Amen' and 'That's Right' (Modesto Bee journal, California).

Whether divine intervention is actively boosting the world's dance markets, is still unclear, though certainly this year has seen an almost miraculous explosion in chill-out music's popularity. A recent Ministry Of Sound compilation sold over 500,000 copies in the UK alone, indicating that the genre's popularity has never been higher.
