Snoop Dogg is set to star in a big budget remake of dodgy 70s cop show Starsky & Hutch, The Sun reported this week, alongside Something About Mary star Ben Stiller.

"It's going to be cool, there hasn't been a really good buddy cop movie since the Lethal Weapon series," said Stiller (who plays Starsky).

Snoop Dogg, however, won't be playing the blonde haired blue eyed cop role previously acted by David Soul and will instead be playing the part of "supercool" (The Sun) police informer Huggy Bear. Despite the Sun's upfront assessment, Huggy Bear was instead one of the least "cool" black TV characters of the 70s, being not just an informer( grass/ snitch) but also the dim-witted butt of the two white cops' jokes. With Snoop's gangsta rap past including drive by shootings and murder charges, he'll presumably need to dig deep into his imagination to understand inside the role.

"Rappers are very theatrical, we're natural actors," Ice Cube told the Standard this week. "What rapper doesn't like Al Pacino's character in Scarface-" (Standard)

Ice Cube appears in John Carpenter's forthcoming movie Ghost Of Mars, which opens in the UK today (November 30th). Snoop Dogg's latest album (Death Row's Snoop Doggy Dogg's Greatest Hits is out now on Death Row Records
