New York pioneer DJ/ producer Danny Krivits, who remains one of the key figures in the history of electronic music, is set to release a new mix CD for Strut Records shortly, the label that last year put out Larry Levan Live at The Paradise Garage. Danny Krivits: Musical Influences & Inspiration is an absolutely must-buy collection for all house-heads featuring classic New York clubs tunes from the likes of Donald Byrd, Love Unlimited Orchestra and Talking Heads. Also featured is the 12inch version of Marianne Faithful's only masterpiece track, her ultra-rude anthem to infidelity, Why D'Ya Do It. Krivits these days is best known for the club he set up with Francois Kervokian and Joe Claussell, Body & Soul in 1996. He also used to DJ at the Paradise Garage and Danceteria in the 80s.

Hotly tipped Bristol drum & bassers Kosheen were inspired by Massive Attack and Portishead founder Geoff Barrow in 1989, the band's Darren Decoder revealed this week. "Geoff was working for Massive Attack in some capacity at the time and they'd got him some kit (electronic equipment)," said Darren. "I remember being at Geoff's house and he showed me this sampler he had, this old Akai. He played me some bits of music he'd started to put together and I was like 'jee-sus'." Darren, who'd previously been playing in West Country punk groups, promptly hooked up with hardcore pioneers Spiral Tribe, started making hardcore records and 12 years later, went top 10 in the UK this week with Kosheen's new single Hide U. The band's recommended debut album Resist is out on 17th September.
