One of LA's biggest raves JuJu Beats 2001, was cancelled this week, after cops charged one of the organisers with felony vandalism. Stanley McCullum was busted after cops discovered him installing irrigation and parking areas at the event's planned location in northern Los Angeles County. Police claimed the organisers didn't have permission to use the land or permits to stage the annual party, though Brian Alper from organisers B3Cande suggested otherwise.

"What I assume happened is that the sheriff found out it was going to be a rave and pressured the property owner in Oregon, who pulled out of the escrow (property deal), so McCullum no longer had the right to be on the property," Alper told local newspaper The Orange County Register. "In all likelihood, this has everything to do with this being a rave." Up to 50,000 people had been expected to attend the party and its cancellation is expected to cost the organisers over $US200,000.

Meanwhile, residents of Eagle Mountain (further into the desert) this week blocked the fourth attempt by the local council to introduce a law that would have limited the numbers permitted at social gatherings to just 29 people. City councillors denied their planned new law was a 'rave ordinance', and instead insisted it was 'simply a large-group gathering ordinance, similar to others in Utah County Cities.' The law would have required hosts of any occasions involving more than 29 people to take out insurance for US$1.5million insurance as well as providing parking and toilet facilities. According to local newspaper, the Deseret News, the ordinance's real aim was to 'derail all-night dancing within city limits'.
