Brit Movie Star Says: My Name is Chill-out Caine

Michael Caine is planning to make a chill-out mix CD, the Standard reported this week, in what amounts to a dramatic career change for the veteran British movie star.

'I'm great friends with record producer Mickey Most (60s pop impresario). We have lunch a lot and I told him I was an expert on modern music, especially chill and that I make my own CD collections' said Caine (presumably adding 'and not a lot of people know what'). 'He told me to bring me it in and maybe he'd put it out as a chillout collection through his record company.'

Caine, who acted in classic movies including Zulu, Get Carter and Alfie, is likely to face stiff competition however, from Sony Records, who've just recruited Chris Coco to head up a new chill-out label. Coco, who previously edited DJ Magazine (remaining the title's definitive editor) was also one of the first DJs to champion ambient music. His new label Organic Recordings is to focus on 'non-mainstream chill-out releases' (Music Week) and kicks off shortly with an album called Acoustic Chill.
