Afghan Puff, Beards and Trade's Laurence Malice

Trade boss Laurence Malice narrowly escaped being flung into a Afghan jail, he told 7 magazine last week, revealing he'd holidayed in the Central Asian republic when he was 17 (during the 80s).

'We bought this massive piece of hash with a little gold emblem on it, very sweet," he recalled. "But we heard the police we coming to raid the hotel. I ate my half but this guy wouldn't eat his half, so I had to eat his half as well. I was stoned for a month.'

Quite how much Malice was influenced by his Afghan adventures remains unclear though the bearded warrior look favoured by Afghans has never been particularly popular at Trade.

In Afghanistan, meanwhile, style chiefs continue to insist the just-climbed-a-mountain/ not-seen-a mirror-for-6 months style, remains the country's number one look. According to the Essential Field Guide of Afghanistan, local fashion police are even harsher arbiters of style than Trade's famed door police.

"If anyone observed has shaved or cut his beard, they should be arrested and imprisoned until the beard gets bushy," the Field Guide states. (Daily Telegraph, UK)
