7 years after completing their last studio album electro pioneers New Order are reported to be back in the studio working alongside Paul Oakenfold's producer partner Steve Osbourne on 17 brand new tracks. We've got 13 tracks and we're going to do another four, - it sounds fantastic bass player Peter Hook told NME. When you start to get older you start to hear so much music, it all comes round again and you think you've heard it all before.

New Order remain one of dance culture's most influential and successful bands, having remained at the cutting edge ever since they formed in 1980 (out of the ashes of the equally seminal indie band Joy Division, whose singer Ian Cutis hanged himself). The band were also instrumental in developing the market for 12 inch vinyl singles, initially releasing Temptation on 12 inch only, in 1982 (and still making 29 in the UK top 40). They followed that with the Arthur Baked produced Blue Monday (also only available on 12 inch vinyl) which then made number 12 (ironically, temptation then returned to the charts climbing to number 14.) Several months later Blue Monday broke through into the top 10, eventually becoming the UK's biggest selling 12 single, shifting 3 million copies worldwide. The band were also early adopters of Ibiza, spending 3 months there in 1988, attempting to work on the album that became Temptation.

New Order also used to own Manchester's definitive house venue, the Hacienda, which is currently being demolished to make way for luxury flats. The remaining contents of the club are being sold at an auction happening at the Richard Conrad building in Manchester on November 25th.
