Rising hard house DJ Lisa Lashes has been fined NZ$1,000 after New Zealand customs officials discovered two ecstasy tablets inside her record bag. Officials found the pills as Lashes (real name Dawn Rose-Wyatt) arrived to DJ at the St James Theatre in Auckland and allowed her to play her Saturday night show. She was also ordered to appear in court last Monday where, after pleading guilty' she was given the fine.

Lisa has warned DJs to always check their record boxes, Lisa's record label Tidy Trax said in an official statement. Lisa does not take drugs but fans often give them to her at gigs which she later throws away. She had no idea the ecstasy was in her DJ box as she travelled from the UK via Malaysia to New Zealand.

Lashes was also blood tested for signs of ecstasy use (which proved negative) and was fortunate to escape without a criminal conviction, since the Judge involved was reportedly concerned to avoid damaging her career. People convicted of drugs offences (even just cautions) are routinely refused visas to visit countries including America and Australia and a conviction would have severely hampered her global ambitions. These days I play all over the world and sometimes I can't believe how fast things are progressing, Lisa told Mezzmusic recently. You never know what's coming up next.
