Leading Danish dance producer Fletch enjoyed a happy ending after one of his artists created a bootleg containing an unauthorised Eric Clapton, which the legendary guitarist ended up approving, he told Mezzmusic this week. We (my mate and I) have an artist that made a track in February, which we pressed up on white label and took to various labels in London. The track was called "How Many Times" and the act was Beatchuggers.

Beatchuggers had sampled Eric Clapton's "Forever Man" and we didn't clear the sample because how on Earth could we (as the world's smallest label) get through to Warner and Eric Clapton- Fletch continued. Anyway, we took the 12" to Ibiza in June and people went totally mad. We were then contacted by several labels when we got home, from Australia, Greece, UK, Spain, South Africa, GAS, Benelux and France etc. and they all wanted to sign that record. Which was nice, but since we didn't clear the sample we couldn't sell the track to anyone.

From then on, what Fletch told us felt like a movie, the hands of fate took control.

London Records said that they would clear it and we thought, "'Ooh yeah, that's what everyone else says'. 5 days later, they called us and said that a girl from their marketing dept. knew that Eric lived in the same street as London Records and they could just pop by' to hear what he would say. That very moment, Eric Clapton walks outside their window, the woman runs down the stairs and out onto the street, holds Eric up and asks him if he'd heard the track- He replies No'. But would you like to hear it- Yes sure'. He not only liked the track but he also said "So would you like me to be in the video-" Beatchuggers' How Many Times" is out now this week all over Europe, Australia and Israel while the video (featuring Eric Clapton) is on MTV (Night). http://www.bimbam.dk
