Punkle revolution with Richard H Kirk

Legendary synth pioneer Richard H Kirk of Cabaret Voltaire infamy chatted to Skrufff this week about his upcoming vinyl EP Fear (No Evil) and revealed that he feels estranged and concerned about the youth of today. “I worry a little that younger people are too conservative, I always thought a young person’s job was to be fucking rebellious and to challenge the system,” he explained. “They seem like an alien species, they even talk strangely, in a really fast, cut up young person’s language.

“It would be great to see another punk revolution,” the softly spoken almost 50 year old Sheffield native continued, “though I don’t think it’s very likely; not unless it’s started by old people. I hope I’m proven wrong though,” he laughed.

Maintaining his own long-standing commitment to speaking his mind, Richard also criticised mainstream religions, declaring, “I personally can’t stand organised religion and I think it’s responsible for a lot of the fucking trouble on this planet. You’ve basically got a bunch of dominant, clever people controlling a lot of frightened souls who need a crutch of some sort in their life, and that applies for any kind of organised religion: it’s one bunch of people controlling another. Which to me is bad. I’ve no problem with spirituality and people having their own beliefs but I think once it becomes organised it’s different. Virtually every single conflict you can think of is caused by or at least connected to, religion,” he added.
