Ante Perry - Keeping It Flashy
German electronica DJ and producer Ante Perry has a double CD out, Flashing Disco Sounds, so 3D hit the Dortmund local up to find out a little more about him.
Dortmund…how does the scene compare to Berlin-
Oh, Dortmund’s scene is much smaller. The weekend starts on Thursday in Dortmund and ends on Sunday midday. We have two or three nice clubs and some promoters. The good parties are mostly on Saturday [though] – in Berlin [they’re] almost every day. But the Mayday takes part in Dortmund, also Love Parade, Juicy Beats Festival, DJ Meeting and Syndicate. Dortmund has huge potential to become a respected city in electronic music like Cologne or even Berlin.
Your new record Flashing Disco Sounds is a mix with a bonus disc of your productions. Did you produce the exclusive tracks specifically for this release or are they old tracks that just haven’t been released until now-
It depends. The openers Jay and Waltervondervogelweide from the second CD and Human You from the first CD were only produced for this release. Symbiose and Mutant Rebellion are a bit older. They are timeless and that’s the reason why I took them both on the CD too!
Tell us how you went about choosing the tracks that went into the mix…
I present my DJ set for a whole club night. It starts deep and techy, goes housey in the middle part and ends more minimal. I tried to use tracks I would play and which are not released yet. And of course, two tracks from peers of mine.
Are you showcasing many of your peers-
The second CD was totally produced by Tube & Berger and me. Even though it is an Ante Perry release, we try to feature each other by putting the name into the interpreter. On the first CD I feature my friends Namito, Mahan, Oliver Klein and Peter Jürgens. Except for Namito they all live in Dortmund and we spend a lot of time together.
Your own Flashing Disco Parties have hosted some big names, such as M.A.N.D.Y., DJ T and Moonbootica – what’s on the cards for the rest of the year-
DJs like Marc Romboy, Karotte, Boys Noize, Amê and even Booka Shade will visit my parties in the future.
If you were to do a ‘party mix’ of your favourite tracks for a close friend (such as us, perhaps-) which productions would feature on it-
International Pony – Leaving Home
DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince – Boom Shake the Room
James Bown – Sex Machine
Bob Marley – No Woman No Cry
Rage Against the Machine – Killing in the Name (Mr Oizo Remix)
Die Fantastischen 4 – Thomas und die Frauen
Henrik Scharz – Walk Music
Tube & Berger pres. TYWO – The Young and The Wild Ones
Montal Jordan – This Is How We Do It
Chaka Khan – Ain’t Nobody
Finally, any plans for an Australian trip-
I have heard some good things about Australia and I would love to travel there. But at the moment there are no plans yet! Let’s see what happens in the future…
