The "Real People" crew have been putting on parties to my knowledge now for around about a year - boasting the title of being the first group to put on an alternative powered party in Victoria is something that makes you realise that these guys just might be around for quite awhile. With their bush parties getting rave reviews, it was time for the real sexy people to get out of the winter coats and scarves and get into some indoor partying in the heart of St Kilda, the supposed spiritual home of the "sexy people."
Never having been to Felix upstairs, I must say that I liked what I saw when I arrived. I have mentioned previously that breaks is really becoming the music of choice in the Melbourne scene and it was nice to see something other than prissy house music being played in St Kilda; hopefully a sign of things to come-
Andy Can, who incidentally is one of the members of the Real People crew responsible for putting on these parties, was doing his duty on the decks for the first part of the evening with some tight mixing to compliment a thick Sunday evening atmosphere.
With a friendly vibe and a nice mix of the beautiful and the real, I felt nice and comfortable here. I don't often find myself having a boogie on a Sunday but felt compelled to as Chunky, a DJ unknown to me, was slamming out a harder and funkier breaks groove to travel into the early hours of the morning.
Unfortunately as with the majority of local nights, you really have to go down and experience them for yourself as there is a wealth of local breaks talent around and they aren't the same names that you see around either - for free entry what more could you ask for.
So for a night out in St Kilda that does not require you to be something you are not, come and experience what is like to be one of the real people, you never know you might find something you like! Tags
