LA Riots - Riot In Sydney
With an name like LA Riots, it’s not surprising this duo produce gunfire beats and dancefloor killers. 3D’s Rezo spoke with the duo ahead of their Global Gathering set.
The LA Riots boys have achieved a lot quite quickly. It seems like it was only yesterday that they started with their remix for their mate, Steve Aoki. It was for his label Dim Mak and for the band Scanners. Then of course came Mystery Jets, Chromeo, Kylie Minogue, Justice, Photek and so on. And in 2008 we find ourselves talking to them, wondering how it happened so quickly.
“We were picked up by Undocumented Management around October 2007 – they are the Management Company behind MSTRKRFT and Lazaro Casanova – and then we joined on with AM Only’s DJ Roster,” Daniel Le Disko says. “Since then we’ve pretty much been touring the world and pumping out remixes left and right. We’ve also signed on with A-Trak and Nick Catchdub’s imprint Fools Gold.”
Their MySpace page goes into a little more details about their fleeting success but the lads haven’t allowed it to go to their heads too quickly. While they managed to drop a whole host of club bangers in quick succession, they are now withdrawing to the bunker to focus on something more concrete.
“We did spend a fair bit of time concentrating on remixes and tours,” Daniel continues. “So for the time being, we’ve decided to put a stop to those and have commenced work on our debut material for Fools Gold.” And being connoisseurs of virtually any types of electronic music – from down-tempo to dub, drum n bass to pop; and even more traditional genres like hip hop and rock, the duo are convinced that their music checks all the boxes. “We both love being really involved in all of our music. It doesn’t matter what genre it is, whether it is something popular or something more traditional.
Yet one wonders where they find the energy. Indeed, what happens during the so-called ‘in between’ time – the time between the touring and studio work- “Well honestly there hasn’t been an in between,” Daniel admits. “For us in recent times it has just been all about the tour, tour and tour! When there is actually time for the two of us to get home – we relish it. My first day home in a month will be this Tuesday night. Then it’s followed by a flight to Europe the next morning. And then the spare days are spent catching up on life – paying a few bills, getting back into TiVo, doing the laundry, you know-”
